Those magnificent flying men…

September 24th, 2011

I am now living for 4 years on the Plateau des Petites Roches, a geological singularity that takes the form of a plateau of 10 km long, attached to the mountain at 1000 m high. I will post later on it, since it’s worth, but not the topic today.

This place is known worldwide for free flying. And every year, around the end of September, occurs the great annual international free flying event:

la Coupe Icare

During 4 days, all kinds of free flying are represented and honored:

  • Aerobatic shows by hang glider and paraglider pilots
  • Acrobatic sailplane
  • Parachuting and wingsuit
  • ULM and gyro demos
  • Pulma and paramotors
  • Kites and sports kiting
  • Boomerang
  • Air Force acrobatic team demo
  • Paraglider manufacturers demos
  • Demos by the French military parachuting team

It’s soO0Oo good to feel like a child again every year, by simply looking at the sky.
Thanks to you Icarus, men are now flying ^_^

Penguin strikes back…

September 27th, 2010

Seen during the last strike in France:

penguin-strike

The (not so visible) slogan means “we are not penguins”.

Well, we are not windows either! And why do you think that penguins are small defenseless things?

Jokes aside, the reasons of this strike are serious, and the way the government deals with this is probably sub optimal:

having more workers on the market, without having more work is simply a non sense! You will only be increasing unemployment, so public taxes in the end.

Looking for a solution (french only)?

(thanks to Luc for the picture, Seb for his support and my brother Guillaume for the video link)

Opening session

September 26th, 2010

There we are: this blog is finally open!

It’s still a work in progress, and I don’t have much time to spare in it though. So please, bear with me.

I will be talking here about power management, mainly through the project I’m proudly leading (NUT – Network UPS Tools).

More generally, about Green IT and Freen IT (Green IT using Free Software), with some thoughts on FLOSS.

I will also also post on the green citizenship, life in general and my beloved mountain.

About /me:

Currently working full time for Eaton, as the R&D Dept Linux, Unix and FLOSS expert.

Network UPS Tools project leader since 2005, Debian developer since 2001, Free Software hacker since 1997.

For more information on my professional career, see my linked in profile, my contributions to FLOSS or google me.

I’m also a Local Councilor, in St Bernard du Touvet (a cute village, in the mountain Chartreuse), and Staff Representative at Eaton. Both since 2008.

I’m finally a green citizen, engaged and passionate in everything I do, married with a beautiful Mauritian woman, that gave me two lovely kids.
